Our Company

Five Footprints was founded in 2002 by Margaret Cooke, an inspirational entrepreneur with a passion for creating sustainable enterprises that embrace the most innovative environmental and social progressive business practices.   
Five Footprints publishes magazines for the professional market with an emphasis on sustainability, either as core business or as a move towards responsible business practices.
The company is an internet based business that is run from the head office located in Brisbane, Queensland.  Staff includes commissioned editors:
  • Holly Cochrane:  GSM Magazine
Holly holds an undergraduate degree in Communication and Multimedia Systems and is currently undertaking her Graduate Certificate in Professional Writing. She came to Five Footprint Publishing in 2007 after extensive experience working in the communications department for the Victorian Department of Premier and Cabinet, GM Holden and the Department of Defence. Holly also brings imagination and creative flair to Five Footprints having worked as a graphic designer for August Communications and Khmer Creations Cambodia.
  • Tanya Penny:  ONE Magazine
Tanya Penny is a leading communications professional with a strong interest in sustainable practices.  Prior to joining Five Footprints Publishing in 2010, Tanya worked with World Vision Australia in developing their social and economic empowerment programs in South East Asia and South America.  Tanya has spent several years traveling and working overseas and speaks French, Spanish and Korean fluently.  Tanya is particularly passionate about education and spent several years as a teacher working in orphanages in Africa.  She has published several novels about her travels and experiences and is excited to now be combining her love of education, communication and issues of sustainability as our Commissioning Editor for ONE magazine.     
  • Maddie Sargant:  SEED Magazine
Madeline joined Five Footprints in 2009. She holds an Undergraduate degree in Public Relations and International Relations and brings previous experience working for the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade in the area of Environmental Issues and Treaties. She traveled extensively through Europe and South America in 2008 as research for her Doctorate on 'Sustainable Practices: The Developed World Versus the Developing World' and currently sits on the board of the Organic Federation of Australia, the umbrella organisation for the Australian organic industry.

Our Marketing Strategy

Five Footprints applies a sustainable approach to marketing that focuses on our online presence.  The Five Footprints website is the face of the company and as such our site has been designed and developed to be an attractive, easy to navigate, user-friendly, interactive business portal.  We utilise search engine technologies that ensure that Five Footprints ranks highly and is clearly visible on a variety of search options.  We also employ web analysis functions that help us to continually refine our web presence to ensure that we are as visible as possible.

As a publishing company targeting the professional market we also aim to promote our presence within various professions that we represent, for example we hold stalls at conferences, symposia and business events where we promote our magazines and our sustainable philosophy and offer on-line subscriptions and deals.

Our Distribution Strategy

Our principle distribution strategy is to offer our magazines via electronic modes through the Five Footprints website, including:
  • E-mail distribution to subscribers
  • Print-on-demand through the website
To promote and encourage our readers to take up electronic subscription of our magazine listings Five Footprints offers an easy to use, secure subscription and payment sites.  Special deals are offer at times on discounted subscription rates to further encourage the use of sustainable production and distribution.

Five Footprints also offers limited print distribution for some of its magazine listings to meet all our clients’ requirements.  We employ production and distribution practices such as the use of recycled paper, eco-friendly printing practices and delivery via vehicles that use bio fuel technology that further our philosophy of sustainability.

Five Footprints printed magazines are distributed by Eco Distribution which manages retail sale and return.  Print material is distributed for sale in a variety of locations including:

  • Book retailers
  • Specialist stockist
